Are you an Australian citizen or permanent resident and have fallen in love with a foreigner? Do you both want to reside in Australia?
The partner visa is likely the option you’re looking for. This allows an Australian citizen or permanent resident to sponsor their partner to live in Australia permanently.
This visa is only available offshore for those that are engaged. Within nine months of being granted this visa, you must enter Australia and marry and lodge the next stage of the visa process.
This is the first stage of the partner visa process. You will need to prove that you are in a genuine relationship. You must either be married or in a de facto relationship. Once you are granted this visa you are allowed to remain in Australia for the next process.
The permanent partner visa can be applied for two years from the date of lodging the temporary partner visa application. In some circumstances, you can apply straight for the permanent partner visa without having to wait for the temporary partner visa. In order to be granted this visa, you need to still be in a genuine relationship with your sponsor. Once you are granted this visa, you are a permanent resident of Australia.
